the girls in high school never did like me/ i was only half of what they wanted/ and always half of what they hated/ it was four years of hell being taunted

they’d whisper to each other like i’m some freak/ two pieces of a puzzle that just don’t match/ i’ve tried every glue, tape, and staple/ i’m everything and yet still nothing, just detached

the girls in college just don’t understand/ they tell me i’ve made it all up in my head/ they tell me i’ve been taken for far too long/ i call myself queer and they call me misled

we were in tenth grade sitting together at lunch/ we were in eleventh grade skyping until morning/ we were in twelfth grade tossing up our caps together/ now i wake up each day to you snoring

we grew up and we grew old but we grew together/ we both go off to ours jobs before the sun/ we drive across the world your hand on the wheel/ my hand on your leg as the music drums

we toss and we turn and we wind down our path/ ours are intertwined as we weave/ my yarn loops through yours but it never knots/ in and out, together we knit our dreams
