i step into the new year wearing the same clothes/ i hold onto the hands of my friends as i go/ i hold onto my love and look back to smile/ and finally i look forward to see how we’ll all grow

i wish you all a year of love and a year of life/ honest friendship and kindness to yourselves/ for me i wish for a seed of faith/ something to root and remain in good health

goodnight and good year to all who browse/ step through to this year with an open soul/ to be better is to change and to find acceptance/ to find a version that is kind and whole

night terrors

every time i drive i wonder what it would be like to lose control/ i dream my brakes don’t work and i cannot stop/ i roll and roll and roll into traffic/ i wake up in sweat and on and on my head throbs

i dream i dance and kiss my way into the night/ i’m critiqued and i’m reprimanded but i dance/ i wear feathers of every color that float over me/ until it becomes a nightmare where i’m wrinkled and missed all my chances

my brakes slam and there are lights behind me/ thrust through the windshield, i’m floating in the air/ it’s the lightest i’ve felt in a while despite what lies ahead/ smashed into the ground, are my lungs even there?

startled awake, i’ve done this before/ my dreams twist and they tangle till they rot/ i relive every moment to discern which reality is certain/ which truths are familiar and which are not

unwell

cold metal tastes like tinted ice/ eroding between my gnashed teeth/ i bleed the metallic scent of it/ the sharp edge of the past week

it hits me like the damp cold/ as the wind whips my face/ i turn red and raw/ and wish this drink were laced

i scream in the steaming shower/ and drown in the pouring water/ i turn it to cold just to shiver/ and have a reason to want slaughter

i slaughter my dreams of roses/ and crush them with a deeper red/ i rip out my veins with my nails/ all in the dark of my bed
